Last year Professor Kaplan, an engineer, bought two monkeys, and took them to his estate near Lake Atter, in Upper Austria. Their cages were put in the professor's study, and they were occasionally permitted to leave them. Recently they discovered Professor Kaplan's notecase, and, taking out the banknotes, they consumed them with the greatest glee. By the time this was discovered they had eaten as much as 1000 schillings "( £35) in notes.
