HURLED INTO AIR.
NINE-FOOT ROWING BOAT. LANDS ON MOTOR CAR. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. An unusual illustration of the force of yesterday's gale was given when three women motorists were driving along the road at York Bay on their way to Eastbourne. A rowing boat, Oft 6in in length, which had been drawn up on the beach and was lying on its eide, was caught by a particularly strong gust of wind and hurled a distance of about 30ft on to the radiator and mudgard of the car, which was a cloped-in model. From the car the boat was tossed on to a bank on the side of the road away from the sea. The speed of the. car at the time was 25 miles an hour, and it was only the action of the driver in hurriedly applying the brakes and swerving to the other side of the road tMt prevented the boat from crashing on to the bodywork. The damage to both car and boat was slight.
