GOOD BUYING.

Limyris, winner of the second division of the Rosehill Nursery Handicap on Saturday, December 16, is a New Zealandbred filly by Liniond (imp.) from the imported mare Jfoinyris, by Pommern from Porphyria, by Sautoi from Cythera, by Cyllene, from Stolen Love by Buccaneer, and is a member of the Bruce Lowe No. 3 family (says an Australian writer). Pdiuyris was one of six mares imported to New Zealand by Mr. (i. M. Curric in 1927, and, although she has proved her worth in producing Pomp, a good winner, in addition to Limyris, she has been an unlucky marc for Mr. Curric. Her first foal in the Dominion after producing the colt Taumatamua to an Lmglish service by Junior, was the colt Pomp, who was foaled in 1027. In 1928 she produced to Thespian a colt, who died, and again in 1929 her colt foal was lost, being destroyed after an accident. Mr. (Jurrie has reason to be pleased with hie purchases that year, foi one of them, Jewel of Asia, who was first sent to Australia and was sold on account of Mr. Bundle Brendon, of England, has produced Sir John, a two-year-old, which created such a favourable impression when he Avon the Kirkham Stakes. Sir John has every qualification for staying power, for, apart from -his splendid conformation, his blood lines contain an abundance of staying blood. He if by Limond, and his dam is by Grosvenor. a son of Sceptre. His third dam, Armenia, was a half-sister to William the Third, oik of the greatest stayers who raced ir England. Other mares in the same pur chase were Aspic, Joanfax with an Englisl filly named Imprudence at foot, Mirabelk [1., the dam of Miramond, who ran thin in the recent V.K.C. Derby, and whicl: also had an English-bred filly nt foot. II was in the same year that Mr. Cum* bought the sire Fombal, a half-brother t< Limond, who has done such great service for him.
