TOO LATE.
TRAGEDY OF JEWISH ACTOR,
BERLIN, December 17,
A tragedy of recognition that came too late was enacted with the death of the great Jewish actor, Julius Falkenstein, who, with the advent of Herr Hitler, fell on hard times.
He was allowed to remain 'on the stage because he served in the trenches, but was forbidden to reappear in films.
While playing ill a small Berlin theatre last week Falkenstein so delighted Major Roelmi that the Storm Troop leader publicly congratulated him, saying whether he was a Jew or not he would get the recognition he deserved.
One hour before the arrival of a letter from a leading German film company, offering him a principal part, Falkenstein died broken by misfortune and humiliation.
