DIAMOND WEDDING.
MR. AND MRS. J. HARE. Well-known pioneer settlers of North Auckland, Mr. and Mrs. <T. Hare celebrated the 00th anniversary of their marriage to-day at their home at Remuera. They were married at the Kaco, Whangaroa, Weslcyan Church on December 23, 1873, by the Rev. J. J. Lewie. Before her marriage Mrs. Hare was Miss Harriet Anne Goulton, of Lincolnshire. She had conie with her parents to New Zealand in 1803 and settled in the Kaeo district. Mr. Hare was born in County Armagh, Ireland, 82 years ago and immigrated to New Zealand with his parents in 1805 on the Government immigrant ship the Lancashire Witch. Mr. Hare, Who was only a lad at the time of the voyage, remembers the details perfectly. "I remember we were 117 days on the water," said Mr. Hare. "On" arrival at Auckland my people went straight to Whangaroa, where the Government had promised tis Work. At the end of a year's hard work my father managed to buy 10 acres of land and a small house." In later years Mn Hare became a prominent figure in the public life of Whangaroa. He served for 21 years on the Whangaroa County Council, ten of Which he was chairman. He was a personal friend t>f the l&te Mr. K. J. Seddon and of Lord Ranfurly. Mr. ftnd Mrs. Hare retired some 12 years ago to the beautiful home in Remuera where they How live. There are five children living, Mr. W. J. Hare (Whitiaiiga), Mr. H. J. Hare (Paeroa), Mr. L. M. Hare (Remuera) and Mrs. F. Woodward and Mrs. A. M. Walton (Mount Albert.)
