TOWN-PLANNER.

appointment recommended BOARD CONSIDERS SCHEMES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON", Friday. In view of the number of townplanning schemes at present before the board and of the likelihood of further ones being submitted at an early date, the ToAvn-Planning Board at a meeting to-day discussed the question of the appointment of a town-planner. Members of the board considered it essential that an officer with the requisite technical qualifications should be attached to the board to advise it in connection with these schemes and other matters which might arise, and it was decided to recommend that a townplanner should be appointed. The question of proceeding with topographical surveys with a view to preparing much of the material required for town-planning schemes was discussed. It was agreed that the present time was very opportune for work of this nature, and it was decided that the question should be taken up with the Unemployment Board of engaging for the purpose surveyors who at present are unemployed. The board considered proposals submitted by the Napier Borough Council for the modification of certain details in the Napier business area town-plan-ning scheme, 1931. The Timaru town-planning scheme was again before the board, and further steps were taken toward bringing this scheme into operation. The board also had under consideration town-planning schemes for the Huntly and New Lynn boroughs, the Papatoetoe town district and the Mount Wellington road district. Inquiries were before the board as to its attitude in regard to further town-plailning schemes now in the course of preparation and likely to be ready for submission to the board in the near future. The board decided to consider the schemes already submitted with a view to approval being given to them, and they were referred to a committee for investigation accordingly. It was also decided that any further single schemes submitted by borough councils and other local authorities would be considered by the board in the usual way with a view to progress with them being made.
