A CHRISTMAS VISITATION.
(By Monion XaUßhton, c/o G.F.0., Taumarunui : age 15.) 'Twas Christmas, antl the air was cold, For the hleiik north wind did blow. And outside a mansion huge and bold An aged man stooped low. He raised Ills hand, the door he tapped, And a servant hurried through. "Why, get thee hence at once, - ' he snapped; "What should we want with you?" And the old irian tottered through the gate. Out in the cold and snow, But thefc he paused in sad debate, Wondering where to go. A little humble hut stood near, And he entered with firmer stride, For the cottage was glowing with Christmas cheer,. And the door stood open wide. But, lo! when the traveller, old and grey, Had eaten their Christmas fare, His ragged clothes all vanished away, And a wondrous lad stood there. O'er the humt>le liut fell a ray of light, Like gold from an angel's wings, And the little boy smiled as he vanished from sight, For he was the King of Kings!
