RAILWAY OFFICERS.
MR. RODIE FAREWELLED. By the invitation of the General Manager of Railways, Mr. G. H. Mackley, the executive officers were entertained at luncheon in Wellington on Wednesday. ■ Mr. Mackley expressed the thanks and appreciation of the Railways Board and himself for. the fine work performed by the staff of the Department during the past year. He also presented to Mr. D. Rodie, on behalf of the executive officers, a token of their good will and esteem on the occasion of his severing his connection with the Department after 40 years' service. The assistant general manager, Mr. E. Casey, and every executive officer present, spoke in terms of high praise of the work which Mr. Rodie had done on behalf of the Department, particularly during the last 10 years, when he had been carrying on the work of commercial manager, a position which did not exist prior to Mr. Rodie's appointment. On the dote of his retirement at -the end of the current month Mr. Rodie will retire with a longer record of service than any officer remaining in the Department. Mr. Rodie's health was drunk with musical honours, as was that of his successor, Mr. A. W. Wellsted, to whom Mr. Mackley expressed the best wishes and the assurance of support from all those with whom he will be associated. Mr. Mackley also named Mr. F. K. Mackay as Mr. Wellsted's successor in the position of chief clerk ill the commercial branch.
