TALKATIVE IN COURT.

THREAT BY MAGISTRATE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.} WELLINGTON, Thursday. A rehearing was sought by David James Richards in the Magistrate's Court to-day of the case in which he was sentenced to two months' imprisonment unless he paid past and current maintenance in respect of his wife and child. The application for the rehearing, which came before Mr. W. F. Stilwell, S.M., was on the grounds of inability to pay maintenance. Mr. Watson, counsel for the wife, objected that a rehearing could be granted only if fresh evidence had been discovered. The magistrate said there were no grounds in Richards' present application on which the Court could grant a rehearing. "I'm swindled out of justice —that's the position. It is a shameful thing," said Richards. Mr. Watson asked for costs, saying that Richards deliberately abused the processes of both the Magistrate's Court and the Supreme Court whenever he could. At this stage Richards' description of his wife was such that -the magistrate threatened to have him put in custody ;if he did not restrain his tongue. j Two guineas costs were allowed Mr. ! Watson.
