SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

Twenty-one adults and about 40 children, residents at Wilson's west coast settlement, were the guests on Wednesday n?ght of the Dargaville Women's Institute, whose members held a Christmas tree party. The guests were transported to Dargaville by motors, principally by institute members and friends. Including the guests there were over 200 children present, and every child received a gift. * m * * On Wednesday evening a large audience attended the Otahuhu public hall, when the oratorio, "Messiah" (Handel), was presented by the Otahuhu Municipal Choir. Mrs. J. S: Smith conducted, with Mrs. .J Mathews acting as pianiste and Mr. E. G. Marsh presiding at the organ. The choruses were all well sustained and the solos by Miss P. Gribbin (contralto), Miss A. Taylor (soprano), Mr. A. W. College (bass) and Mr. A. Ripley (tenor), were feelingly and reverently rendered.
