£23,000,000 Combine for Atlantic

LONDON, December 14.

The new company, formed by the merger of the Cunard and White Star Lines for the Atlantic trade, will control £23,000,000 of capital and 750,000 tons of shipping, with a staff of "35,000 ashore and afloat.

The "Daily Telegraph" states that the Treasury is prepared to-guarantee £6,000,000, which suggests that the building of a sister ship to the giant Cunarder at present on the stocks at Clydebank- will also be financed, as the work remaining to be done on the latter will be at the most £4,000,000.

The undertaking will afford employment directly for 3000 men, and indirectly to 10,000 more.
