Business on the local Stock Exchange livened up.perceptibly yesterday afternoon, and at tlie last call an unusually big list of sales was recorded. , A fresh lot was added at the first call this morning, and altogether the turnover over the last 24 hours must have been heavy. Business covered a "wide area, with. Government stocks getting a fair share of the business.

South British touched a new high level this morning with a sale at £3 17/3, but a subsequent transaction was at 3d lower.

There was a. healthy tone manifest in tho latest bidding, with most sections strong at late valuations. Commercial Banks Firm. At the noon call firmness was disclosed in Commercial Banks, which changed hands at 17/3. Farmers' Auctioneering B preference shares were offered 6d lower, at 19/0. Goldsbrongli, Morts firmed up, and had buyers at £1 12/. A parcel of Tooth's Breweries was on offer at £2 2/3.
