RACING AT WOODVILLE

THE SUMMER MEETING. THE OPENING DAY. PROGRAMME FOR TO-MORROW. The summer meeting of the Woodville Jockey Club will open at Woodville tomorrow, and with the good fields engaged some keen finishes should result. The Hurdles. Ten are engaged in the Manga-atua Hurdles. Kimbo performed well over the battens this season, winning at Hawke's Bay and also at Otaki, while he was placed on other occasions. Manuiri was third at Feilding last Saturday. Chock Say has yet to race over hurdles, but is said to be promising. High Society, after winning at Foston, ran third at Otaki to Kimbo and Revision. Air Laddie won nicely at Feilding and will have support. Acervate and Hauwai appeal most of the remainder. A trio that may be fancied are AIR LADDIE KIMBO HIGH SOCIETY. Maidon Plate. They are not a very good lot dn the Maiden Plate, the large majority having nothing to their credit. Red Rufus is said to be going along well at Woodville. Weroliia was second in the Trial Stakes, five furlongs and a. half, a t Hawke's Bay recently and later finished second to Sanguine King over a similar distance at Carterton. Treasure Hunt was a good third to Gladium and Count Rousillion in a sixfurlong race at Foxton last season. Those that may be in demand are WEROHIA TREASURE HUNT. The Bolton Handicap. The Bolton Handicap is the principal event of the day. Brambletorn won the Metropolitan. Handicap, one mile and a half, at Riccarton at his last start and he will be in request. Gold Trail was third in the Spring Handicap, one mile and a quarter, at Hawke's Bay, while Fairway was just beaten in the Feilding Cup last week and should be a much harder horse to beat to-morrow. Arrow Lad was only beaten by. a. head by Grand Jury over seven furlongs at Feilding, while Chopm was second in the Spring Handicap at Hawke's Bay and third in the Wairarapa County Cup. Courtyard won the Spring Handicap at Hawke's Bay, while Spiral appeals most of those lower down. Ihe favourites may be FAIRWAY BRAMBLETORN COURTYARD. . j The Nursery Handicap. Lord Hereford, who ds at the top of the Nursery Handicap, won well at Feilding last Saturday and should again be hard to dispose of. Bazaine ran second to Tutor" at Masterton in the spring and is stated to be galloping well at Woodville, Burnish, who raced at Feilding, is a likely improver. Sweep Clean was only beaten by a nose by Queen's Pride at Hawke s Bay, While Peggy's Joy, who is also engaged to-mor-row, was fourth. Most money may go on LORD HEREFORD BAZAINE SWEEP CLEAN.

The Sprint. Souchong, after bis second in tlie Feilding Stakes, will have plenty of support M the Oete Handicap, Slippery won sit the recent Levin meeting, but failed in both nis efforts at Feilding. Equitant won well on the first day of the latter fixture, while Passion Fruit scored over six furlongs at Wanganui and later was second over a mile at Masterton and occupied a similar position in the Trentham Stakes to Southdown and Red Manfred. Lady Nan showed some speed in her race at Feilding last week. A preference may be shown for EQUITANT PASSION FRUIT

Pladie was successful in the Trial Handicap, seven furlongs and a quarter, at the Wanganui spring meeting and now lias S.ll in the Mangarawa Hack, but as this is only lib more it should not stop him. Lady Ronald has been placed on/two occasions tills season, while Ebeum, Putse ancl April Fool all showed good form last, season. Colossical was placed twice in middledistance events this season. Golden bhadow was second twice to Tiger Gain at Waipawa and Royal Passion won a division ot a maiden race at Foxton. bome who may be fancied are PLADIE APRIL FOOI* EBEUM. The Whariti Handicap. In the Whariti Handicap Swift and Sure was a good performer last season and won over a mile this season. Flower has raced consistently recently, while Senior scored over six furlongs and a half at Hawke s Bay. Lovecourt was successful over a mile and a distance at Levin, and Catalogue was narrowly beaten over a similar distance at Feilding last Saturday.
