WELLINGTON SALE.

LIKE "GOOD OLD DAYS.*

DOUBLE FIGURES FLENTIFOXi.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

WELLINGTON, Thursday.

To-day's prices were fttr more lika those of the "good old days," and it was a cheerful chorus to everybody in the hall when bidding frequently started at 12d and worked up well above that price. Double Figures . Plentiful. Double figures to-day were very plentiful. Halfbreds of good average quality often sold up to 174d> and. some super lots went to 21^d. Southdown went to the high point of 23d, many lots ranging from laid to 18Jd. Good super crossbred and hogget wools made up to 16d, and average crossbreds sold from 7|d up to 12Jd. Lambs' wool was in short supply, and made up to 13jd. Bellies, pieces and locks sold at high prices, and crutchings in some cases sold at better prices than sonje good fleece wools a. year ago. The handsome rise in prices is best indicated by a comparison of to-day'g prices and those in December, 1932, for representative clips, last year's prices in each case being shown in parentheses. One clip from Jolinsonville, brand "Papanui," handled every year by the same classer, sold as follows: A hogget, 12Jd per lb (o-Jd); crossbred hogget, Hid (4fd); A F crossbred, 14d (sfd); A medium crossbred, lid (sd); A crossbred, 9d (3Jd); crossbred, B£d (3Jd); pieces, 9Jd (3Jd); bellies, 7id (3Jd). Best Price of the Day.

The top price at the first Wellington sale last year was 12Jd for nine bales of super Southdowns, J.G., Parkvale, sold by the well-known stud breeders, A. and J. Gray, Masterton. This was described as an "outstanding sale." To-day 11 bales of super Southdown from the same growers topped the market at 23d. Two good lines of super Romney offered by A. and J. Gray to-day made 13fd. In Romneys a 6uper line from Branscombe (Dr C. P. Knight) topped the market at 16d, as againfet a year ago. A well-known Benopai Merino clip from Marlborough sold well, top lines bringing from 16Jd to 17id, compared with Bid to 9d last December.
