POINTS FROM LETTERS.

THE NEW GERMANY. Your correspondents, "Veritas," "John Harris," "N.Z.," and onco again "Just Simple," are doubting my statements printed in your paper on the 18th ult., hut evidently their knowledge of Germany and of the character of the German people, who are standing solidly with 93 per cent behind their idolised Chancellor, is very limited. They rather believe, I repeat it, "highly coloured" and fictitious cable news from Paris and from the "Jewish" Press in London, instead of listening to the truth contained in sane reports of their uninterested and patriotic countrymen who have seen and studied tho conditions in Germany on the spot and with their own eyes. That tho majority not only of the high finance, but also of the Press of the world is in Jewish hands can be disputed only by someone who does not want to admit well-known facts. Previously I have quoted Viscount Rothcrmere and Mr. Gordon Bolitho (whose father solemnly and impressively protested in your issue of Ist inst. against an unfair and premature criticism of his son's reports), and I may add to-day the testimonial of Lieutenant E. Collinson (late East Yorkshire Regt. and R.F.C.) who wrote, among other things: "My English countrymen, you who have learnt to know Germany and tho German people and who now live in Germany, I appeal to you in the name of justice and fairplay to do everything in your power to squash the mean lies about the unrest and persecution here in Germany. I had the chance of speaking with the English flyers, who recently flew round Germany, amongst others an air vice-marshal and a lieutenant-colonel. They expressed themselves as follows: 'At first we were afraid we might see mishandled Jews on the streets, now we arc afraid only of the too-expansive German hospitality. We have not the slightest desire to bother our heads about politics, because our flight is purely a sporting show; yet we can never believe that the representatives of the new Germany could be such barbarians as they have been made out to be in our newspapers.' Every honourable Englishman living in Germany at the present time could also confirm these statements. The partner in a large lirm of chartered accountants in the North of England, Mr. Frank L. E. Heppard, who was recently in Hamburg, said to me: T am agreeably surprised. As a result of the reports in the English newspapers, I hesitated whether to make the trip or not. Now I am pleased that I have seen for myself what really is the matter in Germany. As an unbiassed observer, I gained the impression that everything is quite in order.' My English friends, I have been living a long time in Germany and have iiad the opportunity of mixing with all classes. I have also lived through the national rising, and consider myself in the position to express an opinion on the conditions in Germany. , The rumour that 1400 Jews have been murdered in Hamburg, where I have been living some time, I pronounce as an infamous lie. I am astonished that tin's lie has obtained credence in the world, and that it was not immediately fought down with the utmost energy. In the House of Commons an M.P. made this foul lie the subject of a question., The honourable member should have, been. invited here; straight away to answer his own question for himself, and have been given thei chance of convincing himself of.the absurdity of his question. I have more than once asked various leading EngT lishmen to bo my guest here in Hamburg, naturally guaranteeing the safety of their skins. But no! they dip their pens deeper into their wells of poison ink and are afraid to substantiate their statements. It has been kept from the English people that .the new regulations for the German Civil' Service contain modifying conditions in respect to those Jews who fought; at the front or who lost a father or son in the war. That these men, who proved themselves good German citizens, have not'-been'disturbed in their career,,is.quite unknown to my countrymen, for the simple" reason that the English papers; have never mentioned it. The new men in Germany have had to fight hard for their ideals. They were persecuted far worse than the German Jews supposedly are to-day and were exposed to. murderous attacks daily. Please believe us,, who. have the opportunity of really knowing Germany from first-hand, experience,' tha't everything here is in order, and that only those revolutionary, unpatriotic elements have the slightest cause to fear the new men." So far Lieiitenant E. Collinson. Will the critics "of "truth" reject or discredit also the outspoken testimonial of this British officer?-Will they -'actually try to make your readers believe that aH these eye-witnesses' (including the former German Crown,. Prince; and the Jewish leader Dr. Naumanh) are making false statements because .of "money" received or of being "threatened"? Have these critics themselves been in Germany lately that they venture to give the lie direct to eye-witnesses? TRUTH.
