SIR H. BUCKLETON.

RETIREMENT FROM BANK. Sir Henry Buckleton, general manager of the Bank'of New Zealand, informally said "good-bye" to executive officers on his retirement from the bank on leave of absence after 55 years of service. He began his career as a boy of 13 in the Sydney branch of the Bank of New Zealand in- 1878, and subsequently served at the Melbourne branch, coming to New Zealand in 1892 as accountant at the Hamilton branch. Sir Henry and Lady Buckleton, 0.8. E., are visiting Auckland, and they will go on to Botorua and afterwards stay for a time at their son-in-law's place near Morriusville. They will return to Wellington about the end of next month. Mr. F. W. Dawson, assistant general manager, has taken over the chief executive position of the bank, and will rank as general manager as from January 1 next.
