WONDERFUL GLADIOLI. SPECIMENS FROM OTAHUHU. One of the outstanding exhibits of to-day's show "was the display of the Misses E. and O. Whiteley, of Otahuhu, who are recognised as being in the forefront of gladioli specialists in New Zealand and Australia; In the professional class for 24 spikes they won the Walker and Hall Challenge : :Cup- for the fifth year in succession, with a most colourful and striking exhibit. Among their first places was a magnificent 12-spike Bed Lory that attracted much attention, while a seedling Mrs. Dr. Boss was one of the finest blooms in the show. Lovers of gladioli are well advised to pay a visit to the Misses Whiteley's nurseries at Avenue Road, Q.tahuhu. —(Ad.)
UNIQUE DISPLAY. LITTLE POLIANTHA POSES. A unique display of poliantha roses by the well-known rose specialists H. J. Cutler and Son,; of New Lynn, is a feature of t'..c flower, show now being held at the Town Hall by the Auckland Horticultural Society. In varying shares of red, with a predominating tone of a rich orangescarlet, they are displayed to show their beauty as a permanent border for a flower bed, and also for massed effect in beds by themselves. These little flowers grow in massed clusters, and flower for eight months of the year, so are very suitable for border effects, and do not have the disadvantage of flowering for only a short period. —(Ad)
