LEAGUE OF MOTHERS.

The quarterly meeting of the Auckland Provincial League of Mothers was held on Thursday at the Y.W.C.A., Mrs. S. 0. English presiding. Mrs. F. W. Whyte, provincial secretary, read the minutes of the Dominion conference, held in Wellington early in November, and much time was given to their discussion in detail. Mrs. English and Mrs. Kingston Smith were thanked for so ably acting as delegates from the Auckland province, and much regret was expressed that at the last minute Mrs. Whyte had been unable to attend. Mesdames Halls, J. Irvine, J. Reid and Williams, from the Grey Lynn, Mount lioskill, City and I'onsonby branches respectively, were added to the provincial comniittee as elected members. The date of the leaders' conference was fixed for March 1, 1934, the arrangements for which were left to the executive. Mrs. H. Tuck, president of the Mount Eden branch, was appointed tea convener for the ensuing year, with power to form a comniittee. The Mount Roskill branch of the League of Mothers finished its year's activities on Thursday, with a Scottish afternoon. Mrs. 15. Bates presided over nearly one hundred members and visitors. Among the visitors welcomed were Mrs. S. 0. English, provincial president, Mrs. P. W. Wliyte, provincial secretary, and Mrs. E. R. Allen, a former president of the branch. Mrs. English, Mrs. Whyte and Mrs. Bates each gave a Christmas message, and Mrs. J. Irvine, vice-president of the branch, .ga,ve a very interesting talk pii "Scotland and its People," speaking more particularly of Glasgow and the Clyde. Songs, "Afton Water" and "Robin Adair," sung by Mrs. Snell and Mrs. Thorpe respectively, received much applause. Community singing of Scottish songs was very ably conducted by Mrs. JThorpe. , Little Nita Gordon, dressed in* Highland costume, igjave two dances, which were much appreciated.- Mrs. Dowell, Mrs. Gordon and Miss Scarborough acted as accompanists for the afternoon. -The thought for the month was given in Scots by Mrs. Brown, the branch's oldest member.
