TE UKE INSTITUTE.

Te Uke Women's Institute held its meeting recently, Airs. Silcock presiding over a good attendance of members. A very' interesting demonstration was given by Messrs. Huston and Karl in the use of the different attachments of a sewing machine. Competitions resulted as follow: —Bowl of roses: Mrs. F. Peart 1, Mrs. Dodd 2. Pikelets: Mrs. Dodd 1. Juniors, pikelets: Mies Mary Cogswell. The points prize in the roll of honour competitions for the year was won by Mrs. Dodd; the junior points prize, Cynthia Death, A prize for the most points gained by a new member in six months was won by Mrs. Oliver. During the afternoon Miss Gibson delighted the members with a song. Arrangements were made for the children's Christmas tree for next month, Mrs. Gifford donating the tree. Brisk business was done at the sales table in Christmas gifts, fruit, vegetables, etc. The hostesses were Mesdames Dent, Ormiston, Checkley and Miss Ormiston.
