GOOD START MADE.
WORK AMONG ANIMALS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day.' Fifty attended the annual meeting of the Whangarei Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals last night, the mayor presiding. The report stated that a great deal of work had been done by the inspectors, and many people had availed themselves of the opportunity to have animals humanely destroyed. The work of the society had been carried to the la'' North, where one inspector had obtained 83 convictions. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £110, mostly in cash. A cheque for £3.3 lias been received by the society from the recently formed Now Zealand Federation of the S.P.C.A-i this being an advance payment of a share of a recent art union. It was announced that the society would also participate in the. distribution of a large estate, which had been the subject of a dispute in the Auckland Supreme Court. One result of this bequest will probably be the appointment of a paid inspector. The election of officers resulted Patron. Mr. A. J. Murdoch, M.P.; president, Mr. F. A.
