TE KORERO FOR BOYS SCOUTS

(By MICHAEL.)

Hearty Congratulations! All associated with the in Auckland, will bo delighted, to learn that 'the Chief Scout has been pleased to bestow the Honorary Medal of Merit upon Metropolitan Commissioner W. J. Holdsworth for his valued service to the movement. Nor will this pleasure bo confined to the Auckland area, for the services rendered by Commissioner Holdsworth have been national in character. A recent contributor to these columns in no way overstated the case when he wrote: "The value of his work is almost incalculable, so great has

been the uplift and internal progression of tlie movement. Not only in Auckland have his efforts been directed; Dominion-wide improvements must be laid to his credit, and, moreover, have been generously attributed to him by the Dominion Chief Commissioner, Dr. P. C. Fen wick, H.S.W. Tangible results of his work in Auckland there are a-plenty, but by far the greatest result which has accrued from his term of office is the additional prestige with which the movement is now held by the business community."

Tui Patrol, Lone Scout Troop. The Tui patrol of the Lone Scout troop, Auckland, comprising the scouts residing on Wailieke Island, was visited by the scoutmaster during the week-end. The first ofiicial camp of the patrol was held, Patrol Leader E. Richardson and two others camping with the scoutmaster for the week-end, whilst Second E; Aslnvin and two others arrived early on Sunday. The patrol leader and two of the troop met the scoutmaster on his arrival as Ostend, whilst Second Ashwin had remained behind at the camp, which had been prepared by the patrol earlier in the day. After pitchin" the scoutmaster's tent and having tea, the patrol hiked over the hills to Rawara Bay, where a session of knottyin»- was held. Back to camp, supper and "bed. With an early start next morning, breakfast was over, and several of the boys had passed a number of their badge tests before the noncampers arrived. Further instruction and test work filled in the time until an early dinner, cooked by the patrol leader and second, who thus passed their second-class badge cooking and fiieligliting tests. Washing up completed and part of the packing done, another hike to Rawara, a dip in the briny, a talk on the beach, back up and over the hills to finish packing. The farewelling of the scoutmaster at the bus saw the end of a happy week-end of scouting for the patrol, whose camp was close to several flowering rewarewa trees, the home of a pair of tuis.

tost! It is to be regretted that there are some in the scout movement so careless and unmindful of another's feelings as to overlook entirely the .return of a book, which, although of no value to an outsider, yet' to the owner is a treasured possession. Michael- hears that* Scoutmaster L. J. Read, of Putaruru, is anxious for. the return of his autograph book —a green leather album, inscribed on the front page. Michael hopes this little reminder will meet the eye of the person who at present is holding Mr. Read's book, and that no time is lost in attending to its returij. _ Let's all make a special "good turn" day by returning all borrowed property. „ » • * . Sunshine Drive. A meeting of the central committee of the Toy Drive will be held at scout headquarters, 35, Albert Street, tomorrow (Thursday) night, to discuss and co-ordinate pla,ns for the) toy collection, which will take place on tli-s Saturday.
