INCREASED COST THIS YEAFH.
DETAILS OF PROPOSALS.

An increase of £43,151 is revealed in the Naval Defence estimates of £405,245 for the current financial year. The increases are in appropriations for H.M.6. Diomede, Dunedin and Philomel; The total votes are: Diomede,. £81,376; Dunedin, £75,5.65; Philomel, "£34,674.
The triennial refit of the Diomede cost £11,730, and the ordinary refit of the Dunedin, £3400.
The completion of Lloyd's special survey of the Nucula cost £1820. ..
There is a substantial drop in the vote for oil fuel for tank© and ships. The amount provided is £8730, as against £25,581 expended last year.
■ The sum of £23,805 is provided, without explanation, for naval armament stores. For ordinary '•■ naval stores, £19,508 is to be Voted, the explanation being that bp.th cruisers were in commission for the full year, and the large supplies ordered were not brought to account during 1932-33;
"At a cost of £250, and in view of the condition of the Philomel's masts, the equipment for wireless telegraphic facilities is being transferred to the shore. The Bum of £240 is voted for the' purchase of two catamarans, required uv connection with berthing of cruisers at Devonport. To. provide for full, periods of obligatory and. othar training, the vote for pay and allowances is increased from £2821 to £4430. -
An amount of £5100 is included for freight, insurance, and landing, charges on ammunition and stores ordered in 1932-33.
j Passagesi travelling allowances and expenses arising out of the recommissioning of the Diomede and the- partial recommissioning of the Philomel, entailed an expenditure of " £25,291. '
