NARROW ESCAPE.
IN SOMERSAULTING CAR.
ACCIDENT AT DEVOXPORT.
A remarkable accident occurred at G. 20 p.m. last evening at the corner of Lake and Owens Roads, Devonport. A car, the property of Johns Radio, Ltd., and driven by a Mr. K. Keith, had just turned out of Owens Road and was straightening up on the concrete of Lake Road in the direction of Devonport, when it collided with a car driven by Mr. Blomfleld, who was also going towards Devonport from Takapuna. The impact slewed Mr. Keith's car broadside on to the bank, which falls away from Lake Road to the depth of 35 feet, and before Mr. Keith could regain control the car plunged over.
Eye-witnesses state that the car turned three or four complete somersaults before resting on an even balance on a garden wall. Yet the _ driver escaped with only a severe shaking.
Two radio eets, one in the luggage box of Mr. Keith's ear, which was smashed, were intact, despite their bumping, and when tried out at a local resident's house were found to be in normal working order.
Little damage was done to the cars. That driven by Mr. Blomfield escaped practical]}- unscathed, while Mr. Keith's car showed a dented mudguard, buckled wheel and damaged axle. None of its glass was broken.
