HUDSON CUP WON.
WELLINGTON'S SUCCESS.
INTER-BATTERY CONTEST.
Competition for the Hudson Cup concluded this morning, when the 15th Battery (Wellington) N.Z. Coast Artillery was declared the winners. The Wellington detachment, which has been in camp at Fort Cautley this week with tiie 13th Battery (Auckland), won by 320 points to 310, out of a possible 400. Major .JR. Miles, general staff officer of the Northern Command, judged the competition. , . . Points were awarded for technical knowledge and running of oil engines and searchlights, inspection in full dress, the work of officers and gun's crews, and practice with the 6iu Mark VII. guns. Major Miles considered the standard was good in all points of the competition. The practice rounds with full calibre on the heavy guns were fired this morninc, and were followed by the actual competition salvors. In all, about 70 rounds were fired. Concussion from this size of gun is fairly severe, but no broken windows or crockery are yet reported from Devonport residents. The detachment from the Wellington battery return south to-night, and the camp finishes to-morrow for the Auckland men.
