MATAMATA HORSES.
BARK MARBLE SOLD. VALPEEN BEST STAKE WINNER. Master Norval's win at Ellerslie on Monday brings the total earned by Matamatatraiued horses for the season to date to £1720, made up by 10 wins, 4 seconds and 11 third's. Valpeen is the biggeet stake winner with £405 to his credit; then follows Lucess (£?80), Master Norval (£250) and Prince Val (£225). Dark Marble has been sold by Mr. J. Pohlen to Mr. J. Corbett, of Mataniata, brother of the Misses W. and N. Corbett, who race Emancipation. Dark Marble will go into J. W. Cathro's stable, lie will probably race at Te Rapa in his new owner's colours, but it is Mr. Corbett's intention to have him educated as a jumper.
Sir Pathfinder has been weighted for Te Rapa, but he will not be at the meeting, as he has been thr.own out of work and is to be fired this week.
Poi Dance, who ran fourth in a juvenile
"race at Te Rapa last season, is due to make another appearance at the Waikato course next week. This three-year-old has been sprinting well for a few furlongs, but had an attack of kidney trouble last week. A race or so might be necessary to sharpen Poi Dance up. . Emancipation is again nominated for flat events at Te Rapa and will most probably accompany Sir Musk and Dark Marble to the fixture. Cathro's team are all doing well and may be expected to run prominently, 'r Sweet Lap, located in the same stable as Prince Val and Woodful, is to bo given a start at Te Rapa. This filly was only started twiee last season—at Te Rapa and at Matamata. She was kicked at the post when greatly fancied at the latter fixture and was turned out for some months. Sweet Lap lias not been on the track this season yet, but has been doing a fair amount of work on her owner's private track. Lia Fail, owned by the Misses W. and _N. Corbett, who had one race at the Waipa meeting as a two-year-old, is in at the minimum in the Hautapu Hack Handicap at Te Rapa, but may find the seven-furlong journey a bit far at the present juncture. This 'Cliief Ruler—Miss Phinx filly' has the appearance of making a rare galloper, but js a little gross. Prince Val did not race tip to expectations on either day at Ellerslie, but did not have conditions exactly to his liking.' He promises to run well forward in the near future. His Woodful, will not be raced at Te Rapa, but will be reserved for the Ellerslie Christmas meeting.
R. J. Mateer has not decided as to whether he will take Welcome Boy to Te Rapa. This horse had not been in long when he won at Paeroa, and as he has received his full deserts the trainer is doubtful about starting him. However, he intends being represented by Whistling Rufus. This gelding is coming right and may show up when he strikes a small field.
