TANCY LEE IN STRAITS.
Because he is unable to secure work, James Taney Lee, the only British boxer to beat Jimmy Wilde, and the greatest of all Scots champions, has been compelled to sell his Lonsdale feather-weight championship belt. It has been bought by Mr. Jeff Dickson, the boxing promoter. Whereas Jack Petersen and Jack Doyle fought for a Lonsdale belt and £10,000 in- July, only one of the Scotsman's belt bouts brought in as much as £500. A few months ago, Lee, who is 50, was forced, through adversity, to apply for the £l-a-week Lonsdale belt pension, to which he is entitled. He is the first and only champion to receive this pension. Lee beat Wilde for the S.O title in 17 rounds, but a year later the Welshman gained his revenge in 11 rounds. Lee subsequently won the feather-weight championship, and the belt became his own property.
