TOMATO GARDENS.

REGISTRATIONS MEASURE. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The registration of tomato gardens used for the production of tomatoes for commercial purposes, and the imposition of fees to be employed in the development of the industry, are provided for in Government legislation introduced into the House this morning. Under the measure tomato gardens, whether glasshouse or otherwise, in which there are more than 250 plants on January 1 in any year, must be registered annually. Two or more gardens used by the same occupier will register as one garden only. The bill sets out the scale of fees and prescribes penalties for failure to register. After the collection Of expenses have been met the balance of fees will bp paid to the Dominion Council of .Tomato, Soft Fruit and Produce Growers, Ltd., to be spent in furthering the interests of growers as the Minister of Agriculture may approve.
