RAMO BEATS ROCKET.

The weather was fine at Riccarton this morning, and the outside of the course proper was in good order for the final gallops before the opening of the Canterbury Jockey Club's spring meeting. A large number of horses were worked, and the proceedings were interesting without any outstanding performances. Berate and Liege Lord ran a mile in 1.44 3-5, Meprisant following in 1.42.3-s;'. Guarantee and Red Dance ran half a mile in 49 4-ss. Pin Money went well while covering half a mile in 48 l-ss. Falkland and Copyist did a mile in 1.45, finishing together. Shatter and Nightly were well matched over a mile in 1.41 2-5, High Rank taking 1.46 2-5 for the same distance, Silent Flight accompanying her over the last half-mile in 51 l-ss. Doiran beat High Tor in a half-mile sprint in' 49 4-ss. Bright Red ran seven furlongs in 1.31 1-5, Sibella accompanying him over the last six furlongs. Epigram, Eminent and Forestry started off at the mile and a quarter post. Forestry dropped out after a mile, and Epigram finished strongly and beat Eminent by a neck. The full distance occupied 2.12, and the last mile. 1.45 2-5. Silvox ran a mile and a quarter in 2.10 3-5, Heather Glow assisting over the last mile, run in 1.45. Croupier, ridden by his trainer, C. Emerson, ran six furlongs, beating Top Rank over the last five furlongs. Cleanar beat Bell Hill over five furlongs in 1.6 1-5. Red Manfred sprinted half a mile brilliantly in 48s. Ramo, Rocket and Niglit Flyer started off at the mile and a half post. Night Flyer finished several lengths back, Ramo beating Rocket by a neck. The full distance took 2.41 2-5, the last mile and a quarter 2.13 2-5, and the last half-mile 51s- Cricket Bat ran six furlongs on the plough in 1.16 3-5. Tout le Mond was in front o_f Brambletorn over a mile in 1.45 2-5. Emotion and Passion Fruit ran six furlongs in 117 2-5. Miladi and Bettwsycoed did a mile easily in 1.50 on the plough, where Aesculus and Prostration took 1.22 for six furlongs. Sweet Agnes and Argentic ran seven furlongs well in 1.28 3-5. Tea Garden jumped six hurdles well. C'oronilla ran half a mile well, taking 48 2-ss. Errantry covered six furlongs on the plough in 1.18. Monastic beat Rational 11. over seven furlongs in 1.30 1-5. The Smuggler and Southdown were together, beating Ch'rysology by several lengths, at the end of nine furlongs in 1.56, the last mile taking 1.42 2-5. Revision schooled over four giving a moderate exhibition. Wise Choice and Metal Bird ran six furlongs in 1.17 1-5. Ranelagh ran a mile at an even pace all the way, the time being 1.42 3-5. Water Polo assisted him over the last six furlongs. True Shaft dashed along the back over half a mile in 495. Wonderful and Master Reynard ran half a mile in 48 4-ss. Hurlingkam covered seven furlongs easily in 1.35. Great Star ran three furlongs along the back easily in 40 2-ss. Grampian and Ruling Pen traversed six furlongs in 1.18 4-5, Sam Smith and Elude takinpc 1.18 1-5. Arrow Rose joined in over the last half mile. Bon Tray covered half a mile in 49 4-ss. Importance beat Lady Zephyr over six furlongs in 1.16, Joyous assisting over the last half mile.
Lordly Knight's Task. Lordly Knight sprinted three furlongs down the straight. Night Recital and Eupator took 52s for the last half mile of six furlongs. Advance Camp, after going the first half mile fast, took 1.47 for a mile. Kapuna and Gold Knight jumped four hurdles well, Kapuna going on over two more alone. Gaysonie showed a good dash of speed while running jix furlongs in 1.15 1-5. Silver Jest and .Prince Warden cejupleted half a mile in 49 4-56. White Dove broke away two lengths in front of Royal Amphora and the gap was unaltered after five furlongs an 1.1 2-5. Some Shambles and Niggerhead ran sis furlongs in 1.17 1-5. Jaloux and Riri traversed seven furlongs well in 1.29. Silver Streak, receiving weight, finished' alongside Kerbside at the end of half a mile in 48 2-ss. Trivet easily beat Final Shot over five furlongs in 1.1 2-5." Palantua, with Blazen over the last six furlongs, ran a mile in 1.41 3-5, and finished well. Cranford, after a fast beginning, took 1.16 2-5 for six furlongs. Davolo and Sky Rover were together, beating Marquillo over six furlongs in 1.16 3-5. ; Chrysology, Wonderful, Silver Streak, and Gold Knighfc were last night's southern arrivals, while this morning's steamer from the North brought Inflation, Henry of Navarre, Tnveresk, Bodyline, Takakua, Flower, and Dollar Prince,
