LLOYD GEORGE MEMOIRS.
CHURCHILL'S REVIEW. LONDON, October 26. Mr. Winston Churchill, reviewing in the "Daily Mail" the second volume ot Mr. Lloyd George's war memoirs, says it is an ironical fact that the Irish rebellion unintentionally helped the Empire It had been originally intended that Mr Lloyd George should accompany Lord Kitchener to Russia. He remained, however, to solve the Irish question, which he ultimately flung in disgust on the scrapheap, where it lies at present. Mr. Churchill considers that Mr. Lloyd George did not desire the Premiership until the last moment. He thought it beyond his reach] and would have been content to "manage the war" under the leadership of Mr. Asquith. "While he was Secretary of State for War, Mr. Lloyd George had to bear the odium of every failure," adds Mr Churchill, "while he was denied the authority I exercised when I was First Lord of "the Admiralty. Every politician thinks it becoming to insist that office is forced upon him when he prefers tc grow potatoes and supervise the multiplication of his pigs, but it is true that Mr. Lloyd George"was reluctant to displace Mr. Asquith."
