Abuse of Hospitality Offered By Britain. HEAVY FINE IMPOSED. (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, November 1. Cuno Dickhofer, 3G, a German, was fined £3081 for defrauding the Customs of .€1275 bv importing German mechanical lighters* without paying duty. Tlie prosecution characterised the offence as an abuse of British hospitality. The lighters were received in Dublin and smuggled to Ulster hidden in seats of motor ears and thence brought to London. Dickhofer also defrauded the Iree State Customs. The magistrate recommended Dickdeportation, but the defence pleaded that he was not desirous of returning to Germany for political reasons.
