WELCOME TO MR. ELIOT DAVIS.

The Victoria Cruising Club tendered a welcome ii omo to their vice-patron, Mr. Eliot Davis, last evening in the clubhouse, Commodore E. Griffiths presiding over .8very/large gafherlfi®" bf members and supporters of the club. In. addition to the guest of the Mr. Davis, there were present Mr. W. Casey, president; Lieut. N. V. T hew, H.M.s. Philomel; Messrs. Trevor Davis, W. Dervan, J. Griffin (vice-presidents), J. C. Hewson, Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, Messrs. T. L. Thompson and J. Belioe, Richmond Cruising Club; Mr. J. McWhirter, Ponsonby Cruising Club, and Mr. W. A. Wilkinson, Tamaki Yacht Club. Mr. W. Casey, in proposing the toast or "Our Guest," referred to the e°.od _work that both Mr. Ernest and Mr. Eliot had done for yachting generally, and the Victoria Club in particular. He welcomed Mr Eliot Davis home and said all members were glad to see him with them again. When responding to the toast, Mr. Davis thanked members for. their very warm welcome. Many times when on the other side of the world he had. thought of the Victoria Club and the pleasant evenings spent with the members. Mr. Davis recounted several experiences when yachting at Cowes and in the Mediterranean, also of his travels in France and Belgium. Mr. Davis said trade was slowly improving at Home, and ho urged all to buy British goods, as Britain was the best customer. „ Other toasts honoured were The Navy, nronosed bv Mr. Griffiths and acknowledged bv Lieut. N. V. Thew, of H.M.s. Plu omei, who complimented the younger members of the Naval Reserve on their fine Phys"!"?Mr W. Dervan, on behalf of the club, presented the commodore, Mr.Griffiths,and the honorary secretary, Mr. J<w. 1 with framed enlargements of the officers and committee. Both recipients acknowlG<Mr. proposed the to astof "Kindred Clubs," and Messrs. T. L. Thompson and W. A. Wilkinson replied, wishing the Victoria Club continued success. A first-class musical programme, under thf direction of Mr. Will Purcell, was rendered bv the following artists: —Messrs. Lou Bickerton, Jim Lonergan, J. 1 , V^ !rl ' Wills. Blackie, Thorpe, Wright, Dickson and Valvoi.
