STABLE AND TRACK NOTES

IN WORK AGAIN. Horowlienua lias been taken in hand again by J±. Kama, auu this owner is aiso euueatiug a rising tUree-year-oid liny by Lucullus from Country Air. Horowlienua, who has been spelling since lie returned from the trip to Australia, is rather low in condition, and it will be some time before he is ready to race. Wee Musk, in the same stable, is in regular work again and may be seen out at the Whangarei meeting this month. JUST BEATEN AT TRENTHAM. Senegal showed good form up to a mile last season, winning over that distance at Trenthain, while he was second to Kiltowyn in the Xelson Handicap, one mile, at the Auckland meeting at Easter. At the recent Wellington meeting he was only beaten by a head by Prostration in the October Handicap, one mile, and he will have his next start in the Gordon Handicap, one mile, at the Auckland meeting on Saturday. Senegal should again go well. SALE OF RACEHORSES. The horses belonging to the late Mr. J. D. Jones will be ottered for sale at il) .1.111. next Saturday by Messrs. Alfred liuckiand and Sons, Ltd., at 12, Morrin Street, Elierslie, next to W. Mobberiey s stauiesThe horses comprise the live-year-old mare Limex, by Kilbroney—Exactly; three-year-old filly Judy Kelly, by Kilbroney-—Joy Queen; two-year-old gelding Keiiy, by Kilbroney—Joy Queen; a yearling by Yaals—Exactly; and the brood mares Exactly and Joy Queen. SOLIDLY-BUILT FILLY. Mother Superior, who is in the Welcome Stakes at Elierslie, is a solidly-built, lowset filly, and one of whom good things are expected in big two-year-old events this season. She is by Chief Ruler from Dovelet, and therefore a full-sister to Eaglet, who was a speedy two-year-old and also performed well as a three-year-old. Mother Superior failed to gain a place in the Welleslev Stakes at Trenthain recently, but on the third day she won the Roseneath Handicap, four furlongs, in good style. She is trained by F. Til ley. WILL BE WELL TESTED. Kiltowyn has gone on the right way since he raced at Avondale and win strip in hrst-rate condition for his engagement in the Elying Handicap, to be decided at Elierslie 011 Saturday. In this event he will be meeting strong opposition, as the held contains several proved gallopers with recent winning form to their credit, and he is sure to be-thoroughly tested. However, the fact that Kiltowyn has registered three firsts and a second in his last, four starts clearly indicates that he is well above the average, and he can be relied on to put up a bold showing at the end of the week.

FROM AMMON RA FAMILY. Sirona, who is engaged in the Welcome Stakes, at Ellerslie 011 Saturday, is a bay filly by Gay Shield from Phaola, and is therefore well bred, for his dam is a sister to Prodice and a half-sister to Amnion Ka and Prolyxo by Catmint, i'haola was a useful sort when raced, and it looks as though Sirona will also turn out well, for in her only race at Paeroa last Thursday she was always in third position and finished in that berth. That race should improve her considerably and she should get a stake before the season is much further advanced. Sirona is trained by M. J. Carroll at Te Rapa. ON THE MINIMUM. Two Xew Zealand Cup candidates in Ramo and Jaloux have not at all been seriously considered since the weights appeared, but their good showing at Motukarara on Saturday will tend to bring them into discussion. Both have had their weights reduced in the last twelve months, as the results of repeated failures, and if they can produce their best again under the minimum imposts on Saturday next they will add interest to the big event. Jaloux finished fourth in the Cup in the last two years, carrying 7.0 and 7.12 respectively. Ramo was weighted at 7.11 last year, but has not yet contested the race. HAD A BAD RUN. Silver Jest was very unlucky in the Okains Trial Stakes at Motukarara on Saturday. He was well placed early and was going well running round the turn when he disapiieared suddenly, having been knocked back. He lost a lot of ground, and the finishing run which landed him in second place suggested that the interference cost him the race. Silver Jest, a three-year-old by Silverado from Comiqtie. by Limond from Farce, by King Rufus or Absurd from C'owl, has not done much racing, but he should start winning for Dr. M. G. Louisson very soon, while he may work his way into good company before the end of the season. RACED WELL LAST SEASON. View Halloo, who arrived from the south on Tuesday, and will be making his second attempt to win the Mitchelson Cup next Saturday, is a very fit horse, but he has a hard task ahead of him. So far this gelding has not won a race beyond one mile and a distance, though he has been ill the money on several occasions over longer journeys, including a third in this race twelve months ago. It is also in his favour that he seldom runs a bad race, and in thirteen starts last season he was only twice unplaced. At his last start View Halloo ran third in the Harcourt Cup at Trentham, and that form will warrant him getting good support on Saturday. A GUINEAS CANDIDATE. The Guineas candidate Sea Fox is a halfbrother by Hunting Song to that good horse Seatown, and as a two-year-old he had only three races, two of them being at Ellerslie last autumn, when he ran second in the Onslow Stakes to Catalogue, and third in the Victoria Handicap to .Rereatu and Princess Doreen. Sea Fox 'made his first appearance this season in the Moreton Memorial, six furlongs,, at the Waverley meeting on Labour Day. He was always handy, and once in the straight soon settled the leaders, to win by a length going away. It is stated that he was a trifle above himself on that occasion and he should be a much improved horse when he is saddled up next Saturday at Ellerslie.

PROMISING 'CHASER. . Count Lendroff, who has been brought up from Waverley to contest steeplechase | events at the Auckland spring meeting, had his first attempt over the Ellerslie country yesterday morning and acquitted himself •well. He has not raced over steeples previously, though he has done a good amount of hunting and has won over hurdles and also on the flat. Last season he ran second to Blackman in the Ladies' Bracelet, one mile and a quarter, at the Rangitikei Hunt Club's meeting, held at Marton in July. This season he won the Hunters' Flat Race of similar distance at the.Taranaki Hunt meeting, while at Waverley on Labour Day he accounted for the Hack Hurdles. Count Lendroff is by Danilof, the sire of Rapper. Danilof is a half-brother to Sasanof, by Boniform. SHOULD GO WELL. King's Archer, <\t the commencement of last season, ran unplaced in the Jellicoe Handicap, one mile and a quarter, at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting, while in his next start he accounted for the Henderson Handicap, seven furlongs, at Avondale, and the next day was narrowly defeated by Imperial Prince in the Nihotapu Handicap, of similar distance. He was not started again till the Liverpool Handicap, one mile, the concluding event of the Auckland sprang meeting, in which he beat Gold Trail by a neck and returned a long price. In the Glasgow Handicap, seven furlongs, at Ellerslie 011 January 2 he won, beating Cricket Bat, Merry Damon. Lord Val and others. This season King's Archer had his first start at the Waikato Hunt meeting, winning the Bollard Memorial Handicap, six furlongs and a half. He is engaged in the Flying Handicap, seven furlongs, at Ellerslie next Saturday, and, seeing he has struck winning form so early, he should again give a §ood account of himself.
