WAIKATO PROJECT.

LOCAL BODIES' SUPPORT.

Representatives of a number of local bodies met in the Newmarket Borough Council Chambers last evening to consider the proposals contained in the Waikato Water Supply Company's Bill. The Mayor of Newmarket, Mr. S. Donaldson, presided. The following local bodies were represented: —The Mount Albert, Mount Eden, Newmarket, Devonport, Takapuna, Northeote, Otahuhu and New Lynn Borough Councils, and the Papakura, Papa toe toe and Manurewa Town Boards. There were also present Mr. Nelson Gray and Mr. E. H. Northcroft, solicitor, who represented the promoters of the company. Mr. Gray explained that public utility companies were by no means uncommon in parts of the world other than New Zealand. The company was anxious to meet all interested, local bodies. The decision of the Birkenhead Borough Council to purchase water from the Auckland City Council would not affect the company's attitude towards the three North Shore boroughs. After the withdrawal of the company's representatives the meeting discussed details of the bill in private, and it was decided that a representative deputation should proceed to Wellington to give evidence in support of the bill |when it reaches its committee stages.
