ROTORUA. Mrs. M. I\. Chandler, Pukuatua Street, has returned to Kotorua from Auckland. Miss Ruth Ashley, of Riverton, Southland, who has been the guest of Mrs. Edwin Robertson, jun., has left on a visit to Napier. Miss U. Roberts, who has been a guest at Grande Vue while in Rotorua, has returned to Auckland. Miss. M. Lasenby, Hinemoa Street, is spending a holiday in Wellington. Miss C. Lanange has returned to Auckland from a visit to Rotorua. Mr. and Mrs. R. 11. Reid and family have left Rotorua to reside in Auckland. Dr. and Mrs. T. Marshall have returned to Rotorua for the summer months. Mr. and Mrs. F. Symcs, of New Plymouth, who were the guests of Mrs. M. K. Chandler, have returned home. The opening of the 1933-34 season of the Rotorua Croquet Club took place on Saturday afternoon ait the Government Gardens, when the president, Mrs. B. M. Green, welcomed the old and new members and visitors, and callcd upon the patron of the club, Mrs. T. Jackson, to play the first ball. The afternoon was devoted to a progressive croquet tournament,, the results being: Mrs. J. R. Blencowe 1 and Mrs. Manson 2, for the A grade, and Mrs. J. Banks 1, and Mrs. W. T. Parkes 2, for the B grade. Mrs. Thomsen won the consolation prize. At the conclusion the prizes were presented by Mrs. Green, and a dainty afternoon tea was served at the tea kiosk, the decorations being spring flowers and foliage.
PUTARURU. About 250 dancers were present at a "Back to Childhood" dance organised by the Putaruru Relief Committee at the Town Hall. The dancers were wearing rompers, schoolboy uniforms, and a remarkable variety of juvenile dress. The prizes, awarded by Mrs. H. B. Coupe and Mr. D. D. Sneddon, tvere as follow: Best dressed girl, Mrs. Hutson; best dressed boy, Mr. C.' Woodgate. The supper arrangements were managed by Mesdames Crawshay, Coupe, Fitzherhert, H. Martin, J. Gawith, and the ladies' committee. During the evening Mr. J. Gawith, of the relief committee, thanked Messrs. M. Heavey and R. Pelham for their co-operation in organising the dance and also thanked Braggs Revellers, who gave their services free. The Lichfield Girls' Club held a social afternoon in the hall, when a bring and buy stall did an excellent trade and the fund for starting a. library in the district was increased greatly. The members of the club ' acted a short play, "Waiting for the Bus." The programme was followed with afternoon tea. Mrs. Leslie, on behalf of the ladies of the district, thanked the club for the enjoyable afternoon. A cake, donated by Mrs. Lynn, was competed for and won by Mrs. J. C. Lowe. Miss McCarroll also thanked the club for the donation to the school funds.
