"DOUBLE HARNESS."
NEW FILM AT ST. JAMES'.
Brilliant acting and crisp dialogue are the dominating features of "Double Harness," a compelling story of modern life, which will be shown for the first time at the St. James* Theatre to-morrow. Ann Harding, who will be remembered for her portrayals in "The Woman in His House" and "When Ladies Meet," has the leading feminine role, and associated with her is the suave William Powell. The film, is a screen version of Edward Montgomery's play of the same title, and gives scope to a director who is blessed with that gift, restraint. The story is of N a young woman, the heroine if she may be so called, who decides to trap a wealthy young man into marrying her, and to reform him in such a way that he will be a success in the business world instead of a lazy young "playboy." The story is complicated by the. fact that the two fall in love, and this does not make things any easier during a stormy companionate marriage nov the succeeding real one. The complications introduced by a weak sister of the heroine telling the husband ' of the trap into which he has been led ! pave the way for an ending which is entertaining and convincing. The film is pleasantly scattered with amusing dialogue. The supporting cast includes Lilian Bond, Henry Stephenson, and George Meeker. Ely Culbertson. probably the world's best-known authority, on bridge, | will be seen in the' first of a series ox ' films ost bridge.
