On the Wanganui.

Good bags are being taken from the Wanganui. Although the fish are not ready in most cases, catches are showing a very distinct improvement in condition and weight. The Labour Day was disappointing for anglers, owing to the cold, rough weather with a rising river keeping the fish down. With the fly no good catches were made, but with the spoon Messrs. Derbridge and Gordon took 18 nice fish. During the week a lot of small fish have been taken, over 30 being caught one evening by the various rods working Worrall's Bluff. Probably as good a bag as any was eight fish taken by Mr. MacKay at Pouaka. These fish averaged just on 21b each. Greenwells Glory and Kakalii Queen seem to be the favourite evening fly, and the Irish March Brown the best fly during the day.
