BATHING COSTUMES.
Congratulations to the members of the Takapuna Borough Council in demanding that bathing costumes to be worn on all beaches under its control shall conform to the laws of "common decency." Your correspondent "D.G." expresses the'hopc that the Takapuna Council will reconsider its decision, but those people with the best interests of the community at heart will demand that the lead thus given will be- adopted 'by every other authority in the land. The line has to w> drawn somewhere, and it is common knowledge that if it were not for these wise regulations our beaches would very soon become places quite unlit to be frequented by t.iose of tender years in either sex. I understand that '-nudist colonies" are in vogue in sonie foreign countries, and these would no doubt be quite willing to accommodate some of the cranks who during the summer months arc seen lollino- about disturbing the sanctity ot our bathing places. "D.G." and that hopeless minority who think as he does should he compelled to take their sun bathing decently clacl, or else retire to some secluded spot where their semi-nakedness will not be offensive or become a menace to others.
