AUCKLAND MEETING.

PREPARING FOR SATURDAY. THIS MORNING'S GALLOPS. iGTCHELSON CUP HORSES PLEASE. The weather was fine and the going in first-class order for training at Ellerslie this morning, and there was more galloping than usual. The course proper, with the poles 3oft out from, the rails, was available, and the bulk of the fast work was done on this track. No. 3 grass, sand, tan and two-year-old iracks were also available. ' . Course Proper. TThenuakura wan the first out, being sent half a mile- He covered the fix6t furlong in 11 4-ss, and completed hie task in 50s. He was running on solidly at the finish. The Mitchejs'on Cup candidates Red Sun, Carfex and Lord Val were associated over a round, running the distance in 2.4 3-5. They ran the last seven furlongs in 1.33 4-5, and the final half-mile in 545. The firstnamed pair were together at the finish, with Lord Val about five lengths away. Red Sun, who had the outside running, and was wide out going out of the straight, was staying on at the finish, though lie was being kept np to his work. Carfex also worked better than Hsual, his effort being most satisfactory. Karangapai finished in front of Prince Colossus at the end of five furlongs run in 1.4 2-5, the first two taking 255. My Money and Royal Appellant were sent over half a mile, the former finishing in front in 525. My Money did hie work attractively- Gay Broney strode over a mile in 1.56 1-5, the first half-mile taking 59 l-ss. He was going very easily throughout. Grand Tonic was doing better than Lady Gainsborough, after sprinting three furlongs in 41s. Hawthorn was given ar easy seven furlongs, which he traversed in 1.39 1-5. Mountain Breeze was allotted a similar task, which, took 1.37 3-5. After commencing slowly,' Psychologist ran the last five furlongs of fcis work in 1.5 3-5. Supreme Ruler _ and Chief Emerald jumped off at the sis-furlong post and kept together till the straight was reached, where Supreme Rnler •was pulled up owing to bleeding. Chief Emerald continued on to register 1.23 3-5, the last half mile taking 565. After Breakfast. Jewelled Girdle was not doing his best to complete seven furlongs in 1.36, and Morehu cantered round to the three-fur-long post and ran home in 38 4-ss. This filly is on the improve. Gay Rose also strode over her last three furlongs in 445. She was under a pull all the way. Glenromney and Courthaven, after ninning their first three furlongs in 42 3-ss, completed six furlongs in 1.26 2-5. They were both nnder restraint at the finish. One of the best efforts of the morning was registered by King Musk, who had Alpinus as a- companion over seven furlongs. They ran the first three in 37 l-ss, fonr in 50s, and the full distance in 1.32 3-5. King Musk, was in front at the finish, and was going much better'than his companion. After running his first furlong in 12s Kiltbwyn registered 50 2-5s for half a mile. He could have done better. Baroscope, who looks mnch improved as the result of his recent racing, strode over seven furlongs in 1.44 4-5. He is to run in the Mitchelson Cup, and will be ridden by E. Mansion. Kilmuir "was timed to run the last three furlongs of his work in 40 l-ss, hitting "out very freely. Chief Cook, United and Echo Song went away from the five-furlong post, and after running their first two furlongs in 24 3-ss, came home in 1.3 2-51 This -was a good effort anct Chief Cook, "who was being kicked np at the finish, was a shade in front. Billy Boy and Grant's Opal completed a mile in 1.51. There was little between them, at the end. Mahkill did strong work over a round, taking 2.19 1-5, the last half mile being covered in 58 l-ss. No. 3 Grass. Wee Musk strode over a round in 1.58 1-5, and Bright Flower ran the last five fnrlonge of his work in 1.10 3-5. Versant was also allotted useful work, averaging about 15a to the furlong. The Jumpers. Grant's Opal (Baker) gave a safe display over the steeplechase fences on the flat. Zane Grey (H. Dulieu), Kairuri (Preston) and Bamba (L. Dulieu). started off over a round of the steeplechase fences. Commencing at the sod wall they negotiated the fences on the flat, Bamba then dropping out, the other pair continuing on over the hill and finishing up by again jumping the fences on the flat. They both jumped well, and were together at the finish, though Kairuri was inclined to be a bit careful. Bamba also fenced pleasingly. ARRIVALS. Arrivals this morning included View Halloo, Porotiti, Mother Superior, Spiral, Pomp, Count Lendroff, All Humbug and Coachman. RETURNED FROM SYDNEY. Master Brierly, who has been racing in Sydney during the last few months, returned to Ellerslie in charge of R. S. Bagby yesterday. He was out exercising in the centre of the course this morning.
