IMPORTS DOWN.
MOTOR INDUSTRY. FIGURES FOR NINE MONTHS. COMPARISON - WITH 1932. Motor cars to the value of £212,970, chassis worth £20,914, and chassis for lorries valued at £55,575 were imported into New Zealand in the first nine months of this year. The values shown represent tho current domestic values in the countries of export, plus 10 per cent. Compared with 1932, the figures, which were specially prepared for the "Star" by the Comptroller of Customs, show a reduction of SO in the import of vehicles, and the value of the cars imported fell by £16,121. Cars, lorries, and chassis imported into Auckland during the past nine months contributed considerably to the' Dominion total. From the United Kingdom camo 449 motor cars, 42 chassis for cars, one van, and 42 chassis for lorries or trucks, the total value being £73,157. Canada sent 40 motor cars and ten lorry chassis, and the United States three ears and 30 chassis. Only one foreign car was imported into the Dominion during the period, that coming from France. The total number of cars imported into New Zealand from the United Kingdom in the past nine months was 1404, valued at £190,511; from Canada, 116, valued at £17,907; United States. 35, valued at £4352; France, one, valued at £200. Imports of chassis for motor cars were: United Kingdom, 162, valued at £19,100; Canada, four, valued at £516; United States, eight, valued at £1295. Only two trucks were imported, their value being £194. A total of 400 chassis for lorries, trucks, vans, or buses arrived from the United Kingdom, their value being £70,518. Canada and the United States contributed 56 and 62 chassis respectivelv, the values beinc £6436 and £8321.
