FOR SCRAPPING.
77,000 Tons of British Shipping Sold to Foreigners. JAPAN AND ITALY BUYERS. (Received 11 a.m.) LONDON, October 24. According to Lloyd's list about 77,000 tons of British shipping was sold last week to Holland, Italy and Japan for scrapping. It included the Federal liners Pahjpahi and Pipirihi to Italy for about £7500 apiece, and the Pareora and Pariri to Japan for £8900 and £8000 respectively. STEAMER AGROUND. FEARED TOTAL LOSS. The Norwegian steamer Grancro, which ran aground on the Kincardineshire rocks last night, now lies in a precarious position and may become a total wreck. The Aberdeen lifeboat and lifesaving crew are standing by. AGAINST MASONS. ORTHODOX GREEK ACTION. (Received 12.30 p.m.) ATHENS, October 24. Arising out of a newspaper's allegation that the Metropolitan of Athens is a Freemason, the Holy Synod has decreed that no member of the Orthodox Greek Church may enter Freemasonry, which they regard as a separate religion. Any priest declining to renounce memberShip of'the craft will be unfrocked.
