Sayers and Patrick Shine.— Savidan's Splendid Season.
Mr. W. Morton presided over an attendance of 100 members at the annual meeting of the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club, when the officers elected were:—Patron, Lord Bledisloe; - viqeEatrons, Sir James Coates, Sir Frederick iang, Sir Arthur Bankart, Sir Cecil Leys, Judge G. Morton; vicepresidents, same as last year, with the addition of Messrs. G. Thomassen, W. J. Logan and W. A. Woodger; committee, Messrs. A. J. Elliot, A. G. Hill. J. C. Tipping, W. A. Wilkinson, P. K. Ness, N. Douglas, A. C. Bridle, W. G. Thompson, W. Stewart, W. J. Logan, C. R. C. Jones, R. Linn, G. Patrick, K. Moshiem, the president, secretary and treasurer; auditor, Mr. L. N. Ross; liandieappers, Messrs. Morton and Midford; secretary, Mr. H; T. J. McNiel; treasurer, Mr. W. Miller; captain, Mr. A. J. Elliot; deputy-captain, Mr. J. W. Savidan; delegates to the Auckland Centre, Messrs. J. C. Tipping, P. K. Nees and H. T. J. McNiel. : ! The club wili conduct the sports section of the Labour Day celebrations next Monday and also a programme of events on November 18 in aid of the funds of the Plunket Society. The report stated that the season had been a very successful one in every respect, no less than 20 winter meetings alone having been held. The club secured the Auckland provincial cross-country teams honours by the aid of J. W. Savidan (captain), A. G. Hill, K. Pinson and S. Allen. Savidau winning the individual title. Later, Savidan and Hill were members of the Auckland team to compete in the Dominion cross-country championship at Wanganui, where the first named won the race for the fifth time, a feat never approached. in the history of this event. A. J. Elhpt and J. W. Savidan competed at the JMew' Zealand championship meeting held -at Christchurch, where the former runner-up in both sprint races, while Savidan ran second in the mile and won the three miles race. Another success achieved by the Empire champion was the double honours of the road championship race from Onehunga to Auckland. The Auckland provincial amateur cycling road race championship , provided a keen contest and a great surprise when the Auckland Club's brilliant young wheelman, Gordon Patrick, won by a narrow margin from R. G. Foubister, the Olympic representative. A most promising youi-S runner in A. J. Sayers won the \ ictcr Ludorum and St. Patrick's Cup, tne Sportsman Cup was retained by Savidan, while A. O. McLean secured the J''- . 6 - Kohn Points Cup and medal competed tor in the winter. The sympathy of the executive and n l ®* o ' bers was extended to the relatives of the late Messrs. W. C. Ring, R. Duder, C. Brown, H. O. Nolan, C. J. Schnauer, IH. Hansen, 11. O. Nolan, Nigel Williams, T. Bassett and Mrs. Ness. Messrs. King and Duder were foundation members jn 1877. A vote of condolence was passed.to the relatives of the late Mr. H. L. Hoiland. i ' .
