Runaway Victory.

Favourite Takes First Race By Five Chains.

The programme commenced with the Waitemata Handicap, in which the only defection was Kustle, and Manna's Son, Mountain Sun and Indolent were in most demand, the first-named scoring an easy win by over,' 100 yds. As they raced along the bacß the first time Manna's Son and Pearl Parrish were well clear of Waskasu, Otara and Stalky, with Mountain Sun and Nelson Pirate next. Passing the stand the first-named pair had increased their lead, and were followed by Waskasu, Golden Eagle, Mountain Sun and Otara. Manna's Son drew right aw ; ay from Pearl Parrish along the,, back, where Golden Eagle ran into second place; then came -Otara, Waskasu and Pearl. Parrish. Turning for home, Manna's Son was 100 yds clear, and just strolled home to win by that distance from Golden Eagle, who beat Otara ,bv half a length. Waskasu was fourth, followed by Nelson Pirate, Indolent, Mountain Sun and Autumn Sun. Next Favourite Fails. Rare Key, Koma Girl, Pelting and Our Summer dropped out of the Improvers' Handicap, the chief selections being Ringtrue, Great Chum and Nellota. When they were let go Ivewpie's King stood on the mark and Jester lost his driver within the first one hundred yards. Peter Junior began best from Student Prince, Great Ch-um, Ringtrue, Kia Kaha and June Royal, and the first three led past the stand from Tinokaha, Ringtrue, Bingen Chief and Nellota. Great Chum took charge along the back on the final round, with Peter Junior and Student Prince handy, then came Tinokaha, Ringtrue, Worthy . Chief and Nellota. There was little change into the straight, where Tinokaha ran up, but failed to catch Great Chum, who beat him by three lengths,, with Peter Junior a length away. Ringtrue was fourth, then came Worthy Chief, June Royal and Nellota.

Winner Pays Big Dividend. When the field paraded for the Jellicoe Handicap, Kewpie's Guy was, the only absentee, and most money came for Pegaway, Great Parri&h and Meteor, but Peter Pirate eventually won easily and paid over a score and a half. Jewel Pointer was side on when the barrier lifted and lost ground, the early leaders being Lady Coronado, Dan Direct and Pegaway, and passing the stand the order was-Lady Coronado, Prince Pedro, Dan Direct, Tactless, Pegaway and Kewpie's Triumph, with Great Parrish, Meteor and Jewel Pointer following. Passing the stand the second time, Kewpie's .Triumph was leading Tactless and Lady Coronado, with Prince Pedro, Dan Direct, Peter Pirate, Pegaway and Meteor in close attendance. They raced without change along the back, where Tactless moved up- and led across the top from Peter Pirate, Prince. Pedro and Meteor, with Lady Coronado handy. Peter Pirate ran to the front entering the straight, -with Tactless next,, followed by Meteor, Lady Coronado and Great Parrish. Over the - last furlong Peter Pirate drew out to win by two lengths and a half from Meteor, with Lady Coronado a neck away.
