LABOUR DAY.

HOLIDAY WEEK-END* MANY ATTRACTIONS. With Labour Day falling on Monday, Aucklanders will have the opportunity of enjoying two and a half days' holiday. To coincide with the long weekend, a variety of sporting and other attractions has been arranged. Shops and business premises which closed at mid-day to-day will not reopen until Tuesday morning. The Auckland Trotting Club's spring meeting opened at Alexandra Park today, and will be continued on Monday. To-day also marked the. opening of the Auckland Cricket Association's season, the first round of matches in the senior A and senior B grades being commenced. On Monday a second round of senior games will be played. This afternoon a League football match, between Marist Old Boys and Richmond, was played at Carlaw Park. The proceeds will be devoted'to the relief of unemployment. A number of tennis clubs opened their season this afternoon, and a week-end golf tournament was commenced at Titirangi. I Apart from the' trots, the chief attraction on Monday will be the Auckland Amateur Athletic Association's carnival at the Domain, at which the Olympic Games representatives, J. W. Savidan and A. J. Elliot, will compete. In addition to the athletic championships there will be special sports for the children, and Highland and other dancing competitions. Many families will spend the weekend camping, and early this afternoon an unusually large number of cars, most of them heavily loaded with camping gear, were on the road. Excursions will be run to all parts of the Hauraki Gulf, and special trips have also been arranged by motor companies. As mentioned yesterday, the bookings for the special excursion trains put on by the Railway Department were exceptionally heavy. The anthropology and Maori race section of the Auckland Institute and Museum will hold a field day at Muriwai on Monday, when an inspection will be made of the historical Korekore pa. A military camp will be held at Wharekawa, Clevedon, where an intensive training period of advanced work will be carricd out.
