"VALE."
Tr&gic Death of Soccer Referee. The flag was flown at half-mast at Blandford Park this afternoon, and officiating referees wore a black band as a token of respect for the late F. R. Wilson, a most valued and highly respected official of the Referees' Association, who died with tragic suddenness last niglit. Only on Tuesday last Mr. Wilson resigned his position as secretary to the Referees' Association, a position he had filled for several years, faithfully and ungrudgingly, and only a few hours before his tragic passing hence, he discussed with a fellow "whistler" a proposal to fully recognise his long and indefatigable services. Mr. Wilson held a. New Zealand Referees' badge, the highest qualification in the Dominion, and though only occasionally officiating on the field recently, his sound judgment and wise counsel were unsparingly given in tho interests of the game in an administrative capacity. His untimely death cast a gloom over the Soccer headquarters this afternoon.
