LIFE-SAVING.

HILFOED SURF CLUB. PUBLIC TAKES, KEENER INTEREST. One of the most satisfactory features of the Milforcl Surf and Life-Saving Club s year was the keener interest taken in its activities by the public. The report states that to' many calls for assistance in the raising of funds always met with a ready response. Of paramount importance in the matter of equipment, is the provision, when funds permit, of a new surt boat. ''Merry Milford" is now six years old, and net in a very seaworthy condition. It is (Suggested that a Surf boat similar in design but smaller than those in Australia, be obtained. ' , ~ ; ~ The accounts showed a debit, tnit tne club's commitment for the year had been heavier than usual, the renewing of equipment and additions and improvements to the clubhouse absorbing a considerable sum. During the year the club s services were called upon on several occasions, ana Mr. F. Wells effected a brilliant singlehanded rescue early in the new year. In the competitions the club took lirst place in the Speedo .Shield, and Pirate Shippe Plate. In the Laidlaw Cup second place was gained. The unremitting enorts of the club ' captain in training and the whole-hearted support of the members ot the team undoubtedly kept Milford s flag flying. That the Williamson Shield and the Hawes Cup was not competed for was a matter- for regret. - The present membership stands at and the election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr. J" Guiniven; vice-patron, Mr. W McElwain; president.
