MUNGATOON IN WORK. 'I HORSES 108. CAMBRIDGE! Mr. R. Taylor's three-year-old filly by Spear Dance —Gold Plane is now being ridden about", preparatory' t6 being put into work". Since being broken in she has grown and furnished somewhat and is now a shapely filly. . King Archer's first appearance in public this season will be at Cambridge on Monday. He is executing consistent work on the tracks, and although he carries too much condition yet for a middle distance event may run well in the six furlongs and a half event. Good Run's two efforts at Avondaie were about on a par with his recent track work and will have the effect of sharpening up the Hunting Song gelding. On Saturday in. the Avondaie Maiden he appejured to have difficulty in obtaining a grip of the turf in the early stages, and, this being so, did well to finish third. For some time Moonfleet has been moving somewhat short in his track work, even ■when there is no sting in the ground, and hia moderate performance at Avondaie went to show that he was unable to hit out freely. Otherwise he is in first-class racing condition, and if it is a case of steady work bringing him right he will win races in due course. . . A. E. Cox has Unoco and Val Watch in the pink of condition. The latter has only to leave the barrier without knocking herself about to take a hand in the finish of her next engagement. Unoco is to. be ridden in his hurdle engagement at Paeroa by J. Preston. . ■. Principal is stll enjoying his respite from "work. He wiy. be recommissioned in due course by G-. A. Reid, who_ will not take long to gain an idea as to bis this season's prospects. Mr. R. B. Hines will have King Mestor and King Brierly competing at the Ohinemuri meeting. Both are bright and. well and will be turned out in fine trim by J. F. Eva. . . The Lucullus—Gold Plane gelding in J. P. Eva's stable is being given plenty of time to mature and so far has not been nominated for any events. Desert Star is none the worse for his Avondaie efforts and should not be long before making amends for his disappointments there. At Cambridge .and Paeroa he will not meet such good fields as those at Avondaie, and should therefore show to more advantage. . , J. H. Wallace's :Cymc—-Unique filly has just commenced to assume better racing shape. It is intended to start her at Paeroa, and an idea TVill then be gained as to her future prospects. She is quite a well-set-up filly, built on sturdy lines, and is a nice track mover. Quite a number of local sportsmen were .prepared to "see King Musk run well at Avondaie, where the Musketoon Q'' ooo Arch gelding got on the winning list. When in work here as a two-year-old he shaped well and generally finished up his tasks with determination. , . After an enforced spell of a fortnight Mungatoon has resumed work on the tracks. He slackened off a little during the time, but will soon come to hand and should, be about ready to compete at Mr. A. Swney has recoijimissioned the three-year-old filly Lagoon, by Musketoon Lagg. During the last three months she has thickened out considerably and now hears a very sturdy appearance. At the course on Thursday morning Unoco put in a solid round at top, finishing in good style. Tin Lap find Val Watch were associated over six furlongs, the latter scoring by over a length in 1-16 3-5. Good Run and Moonfleet 'were allotted serviceable work on the plough, both moving nicely. King Mestor and King's Archer ran six furlongs in 1.17, tlio former having an advantage of a length at the finish. King Brierly and the Lucullus gelding were sent a couple of circuits and at the b»ek sprinted a furlong smartly. Lagoon, who made her reappearance after an absence of some months, ran three furlongs in 365, quite a good gallop, considering she cannot be said to be in racing condition. Don't Lap took 54s to run four furlongs, but his rider had a good hold throughout. Mungatoon and Mungacre traversed five furlongs in 1.4 1-5, finishing together. The latter is standing up to his work well. He will be seen out this month aud may run prominently. Mustang put a lot of vim into a dash of four furlongs, but was not out after time.
