MOUNT HOBSON CROQUET.

There- was a large attendance of members and visitors at the Hobson croquet lawns yesterday afternoon, when the official opening of the Mount Hobson Croquet Club was held. The president of the club, Mrs. S. J. Harbutt, wel- ' comed the new members and hoped that the club would have a most successful year, and that the various grades would do their best to capture the grade trophies. After she had hit the first ball and declared the lawns open for play, the president was presented with a bouquet of deep rod tulips and white broom, in the red and white colours of the club. A progressive tournament was arranged by the secretary, Mrs. Sommerville, the winners of which were Mrs. Sinton and Mrs. Donaldson. Afternoon tea was served by members of the committee in the picturesque clubhouse,- with its white trellis work and green creepers. Pink climbing roses drooping through the white, greencovered trellis, made a cool and delightful picture. The clubhouse was decorated with red ranunculi, anemones and African daisies and white daisies, gladioli and irises. During the afternoon the president introduced the new members to the club.
