CHURCHES AND THE CRISIS.

While the eyes of most people arc fixed on tho economic and material side of our present difficulties, the Baptist and Anglican Churches in Assembly and Synod have recalled us to the need of a higher spiritual outlook. They claim that the spirit of service and high endeavour alone can ultimately raise the world above the evils with "which it is threatened. Everyone is looking for a better ■world, but for the making of this society ■we need better men and "women to live in the world, and tho speakers at the opening of these two great Church gatherings enrphasised the work of tho Churches in building up character on tho foundations of a vital religious faith. The selfishness of the world and the unruly wills of men and nations must bo challenged.
