NEW UMPIRES' BODY.
ASSOCIATION RE-FORMED. Mr. li. B. Schnauer presided at a meeting of fifteen cricket umpires held last night, when a new association was formed. Also in attendance were Messrs. 11. Duncan and X. 11. K. Hoekin, two other executive members of the Auckland Cricket Association. Eighteen umpires have already been enrolled. The chairman, in outlining the reasons for the meeting, said it u-as felt by both (he members of tlie old Umpires' Association and the Auckland Cricket Association that an improved method of appointing and grading umpires should be introduced. .V new constitution, similar to one operating in Canterbury, was adopted, the main feature being that the Cricket Association would control grading and appointments without afi'ecting the main, purpose of the Umpires' Association. The newly-elected president, Rev. W. J. Elliott, who has had considerable experience of cricket and umpiring in varioufl parts of New Zealand, expressed a desire to hold meetings with the captains of all teams for tlie purpose of discussing the many points that so vitally interested both umpires and players. MATCHES WITH TOWN TEAMS. The management committee of the Otflliuliu Cricket Association finalised arrangements for tlie visit of three senior teams from the city on Saturday afternoon next. It was decided to play I'arnell and Grafton on Sturgess I'ark, and Ponsonby on tlie abattoir grounds. Gratification was expressed at: Iho practical assistance being given by the Auckland Association to local cricketers, also for the courtesy of the different clubs in sending out teams. The following are the local players selected and the grounds and teams they will play: — Abattoirs No. 1. — Clayton (captain), Clark Stevens. K'eiiiplay (-). Local players are requested to be on (heir allotted grounds not later than 1.45 p.m. on Saturday. The umpires for tlie games will be Messrs. Ingrain and Jcrrett (Sturgess Park No. 1), Messrs. Hardy and Nicholson (Sturgess l'lll'k No. 2), and Messrs. Tucker and McDuwcll (Abattoir grounds). it was decided to accede to the request of a club to have a player posted as a defaulter with the Auckland Association. Affiliation with the Auckland Centre was passed for the current season. A postponement committee was selected as follows:—Messrs. Kirkwood. Buckley and Bright. Should it be necessary to postpone games on any Saturday this committee will make its decision before 11 a.m. The living of a Hag from the association's flagpole near the water tower on Mt. Richmond will signify that all matches arc off for the day. Nominations for the junior competition close next Tuesday. Last year there were six teams in this and a similar number is expected tins season, which will make the number of teams playing under the control of 11k.- association 15. SUBURBAN ASSOCIATION. Officers were elected at the annual meeting of tlie Auckland City and Suburban Umpires' Association:—President, Mr. J. Mollo.v : vice-presidents, same as last year; secrefarv. Mr. 11. Bennett; appointment committee, Messrs. .1. Ball, ,T. Gaily, C. Capon; (delegate to the Suburban Association's management committee, Mr. J. Molloy. In.recognition of past services Messrs. 11. Johnston and J. Molloy were elected life members.
TAIHAPE ASSOCIATION.
