OVERSEAS MARKETS.
WOOL PRICES LOWER. MELBOURNE SALES. (Received 11 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. The wool sales resumed. Nearly 10,000 bales were offered. The market generally was on a lower basis than the opening auctions of the Victorian season, but prices were steady at the reduced levels established at recent Sydney and Adelaide sales. Greasy Merino sold to 21 %d: comebacks sold between IGV&d to 18% d for top lots.
SOUTH AUSTRALIAN PRICES. (Received 51 a.m.) ADELAIDE, this day. The sales last week averaged 11.46 d per lb. compared with 12.0Gd realised at the opening sales three weeks earlier. The respective prices per bale were £15 5/11 and £17 5/5. LONDON WOOL SALES. (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, October 2. At the wool sales 8915 bales were offered, including 5031 New Zealand. About 4672 were sold. There was well-sustained competition at full prices, except for slipes. which showed an easier tendency an.l some were withdrawn. Merinos, New Zealand. Algidus, top mice 25d. average 24%<1: greasy lialfbrecl, Mararoa, 13% d and 12% d. At Bradford very little business is being done, and prices are unchanged. PRICE OF GOLD. (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, Octobcr 2. Gold is quoted at £6 13/5 per ounce.
